Understanding Your Vehicle's Factory Maintenance Schedule

We perform a lot of routine maintenance at LightHouse Automotive. Customers know they can count on our Colorado Springs auto repair technicians to perform the necessary maintenance services, along with any other automotive repairs that need to happen.

It is important to have regular maintenance done in order to ensure the performance of your vehicle over time. You will want to understand the factory maintenance recommendations provided by your manufacturer. If you have your owner's manual, you can easily look up the recommended maintenance schedule in there. Every vehicle will have slight different schedules to follow. Different factors include the age of the car, the make, the model and even the oil type. For instance, synthetic oil usually needs to be changed less often than standard oil. It all comes down to following the specific recommendations for your car, though.

You can always call the team at LightHouse Automotive. We'll take care of the preventative maintenance services you need—when you need them—and help you stay on track with regular scheduled maintenance.

Let's take a look at some of the most common maintenance services you'll require:

Oil Changes

You'll want to get the engine oil and oil filter changed every 3,000-5,000 miles, depending on the type of car you drive and the type of oil it uses. Most modern cars, hybrids and those using synthetic oils will have longer intervals between oil changes. Older cars will need the oil changed more often.

Air Filter

You usually want to change out the air filter with each oil change or every other oil change. At the very least, you'll want to have it checked with each service visit to see if it needs replacement.

Tire Rotations

You'll want to rotate your tires every 5,000-6,000 miles and have the tread depth checked regularly. For cars with longer oil change intervals, it's common practice to have the tires rotated during each service. For those with shorter intervals, you may opt to do it every other visit.

Brake Inspection

Every service visit should include a brake check to make sure your brake pads and rotors are in good shape. When to change brake pads really depends on the type of vehicle, the quality of the brakes and how much wear and tear you put on as a driver. Some people will need new brake pads every 25,000 miles. Some might be every 70,000 miles. Either way, you always want to make sure they are checked each time you come into the shop.

Other Parts and Services

There are a number of other parts and services that need to be checked and replaced periodically as part of minor and major maintenance schedules. Cabin air filters, various fluids, timing belts, hoses, spark plugs, brake lines and suspension components all need attention as part of your preventative maintenance program. Check your owner's manual or consult LightHouse Automotive to know when these parts need to be inspected or replaced in your particular vehicle.

Keep up with your factory scheduled maintenance and your car will thank you for it. It will perform better and last longer, and major breakdowns will be less likely to happen.
