Got Transmission Trouble? Look Out for These Common Symptoms.

Transmission Repair | LightHouse Automotive

If  your transmission  is not working properly, your car won't run right and it may not run at all. Rebuilding, replacing or making major repairs to your transmission can be costly, so it's a very good idea to address any minor issues before they develop into major problems.

Here are some common transmission trouble symptoms that you can look for:

Transmission Fluid Leaks

Transmission fluid is generally bright red in color, so it's easily identifiable if you notice a leak under your car. This is something you will want to have looked at immediately if you  notice a leak  or check the transmission fluid dipstick under your hood and find that the fluid is discolored or the level is low. Transmission fluid is the lifeblood of your transmission and major damage can occur without it.

Loud Noises/Grinding Gears

If you hear your gears grinding hard every time you shift or the engine revs loudly every time you accelerate, there could be a transmission issue worth getting inspected by a professional mechanic.

Burning Smells

Burning transmission fluid often has a sweet smell. If you smell any burning fluid in your car, make sure the  fluid is properly identified. Check for leaks and replace/refill any fluids as needed to provide proper lubrication and cooling.

Dashboard Warning Lights

Your  check engine light  may be illuminated or one of the transmission-specific lights (transmission temperature, oil pressure, etc.) may come on at the first sign of trouble. You will want to have diagnostic tests performed along with a thorough system inspection to get to the root of the problem.

Car Feel Sluggish or Won't Move at All

If you are driving and the car just feels sluggish or there are delays every time you shift into gear, you may have a transmission issue worth getting looked at. If your engine is running fine and the car doesn't move at all, then you definitely want to get your transmission inspected by an expert.
