Signs You Might Have a Problem with Your Car's Heater

This is the time of year when your vehicle's heater and defrosters are ultra important. Fog, rain, sleet and snow can all impact your safety and visibility while driving on Colorado's roads throughout the winter months. You want to make sure your heater, AC and defroster(s) are all working correctly.

It's cold outside, so you want to stay warm inside your car or truck. You also want to be able to see out the windows while driving. Remember other drivers will have the same limited visibility you do on bad weather days, so you always have to be extra vigilant while on the road. Here are some of signs that you could have issues with your vehicle's Heating/Air Conditioning system:

Air Not Warm Enough

It may take a few minutes for your car to warm up and thus start blowing hot air into the passenger cabin. However, if it is not getting warm or the heat isn't to the level you desire, it could be a sign of a problem. Your vents may just need to be cleaned or there could be something else wrong that you'll want to get checked out at LightHouse Automotive.

Dusty Air

If the air coming out of your vents is dusty and dirty, then you will probably want to get your vents cleaned out and your cabin air filter replaced. Make sure the air you breathe is as clean as possible.

Strange Smells

Speaking of dirty vents and cabin air filters, you may notice strange smells when you have the heater or air conditioner running. If so, it may be time for a cleaning and filter replacement.

Windows Not Defrosting

A good defroster should clear up your windows reasonably fast. If not, then you might want to get the system inspected by a professional. Most modern vehicles will have rear defrosters to clear the back window, as well, so pay special attention to the effectiveness of that.

If any of these symptoms occur, you can bring your vehicle into LightHouse Automotive for a heating/AC inspection and repairs if needed.
